The identification and avoidance of the allergen and then symptomatic treatment (the treatment of the symptoms of the allergy e.g. cough, itching) are the first line of treatment of allergic diseases.
Unfortunately, this approach does not address the cause of the allergy, which is the body's overreaction to otherwise innocent stimuli - plant pollen, animal epithelia, house dust mites, bee venom, etc.Avoiding allergens is difficult and in many cases impossible (we cannot stop plants from flowering!), and symptomatic treatment may have to be year-long and long-term.
Immunotherapy is the only therapeutic approach that can causally address the allergy itself (i.e. the mechanism that makes us allergic), together with its symptoms. Immunotherapy modifies the patient's defense system to their benefit. Thus, even when exposed to the allergen that has been causing problems for years, the patient has little or no allergic reaction. Symptoms and the need for medication are reduced, quality of life is greatly improved and the patient can continue his or her life without allergy.
In the Immunotherapy Clinic of our Unit, children are treated according to the latest global scientific knowledge and the newest diagnostic methods. We use immunotherapy techniques and protocols that provide maximum efficacy and safety - in many cases pioneering in Greece and worldwide.
The Unit's premises meet the strictest accommodation and monitoring requirements, so that the children's stay in the Unit is the best possible.
Two categories of allergy respiratory allergy and insect allergycan benefit the most from the method of Immunotherapy.
